Apoel Nicosia will take on Real Madrid today in Cyprus in the first game of a two-leg series that represents one of the biggest mismatches this sport has seen in some time. Given the disparities between the two clubs, they barely belong on the same field.
Real Madrid is the tournament’s winningest team all-time, with nine championships. It has a celebrity coach in Jose Mourinho and a lineup that includes three of the top 11 players in the Castrol rankings. It reached the knockout round after posting the best group-stage record in history.
